Greencore Facility: Greencore Facility – North Kingston, RI
Greencore Facility – North Kingston, RI
In late 2014, JAX Refrigeration was subcontracted by The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company to provide the ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems for Greencore, located in North Kingston, RI. The project scope included seven hygienic rooftop make-up air handling units, 27 ammonia ceiling-hung evaporators, a new ammonia engine room and four split system Freon units for freezer space.
The project also carried additional challenges, as the State of Rhode Island requires every individual working onsite to carry a Refrigeration Journeyman License. In order to license the JAX Refrigeration employees that were to be on site, JAX Refrigeration was required to send all the employees to Rhode Island for the exam and then await the passing test scores all prior to the onset of construction.
After all employees had qualified and passed, the necessary delay left JAX Refrigeration with only three months before substantial completion. With most of the work located on the roof, snow and extreme wind chill conditions further truncated the timeline. Lastly, the project’s timeline was challenged by several last minute design changes during the construction process, creating further delays and additional scope.
With its crew of extremely talented welders and pipefitters, JAX Refrigeration was able to complete the project on time, creating a new partnership with Whiting-Turner. Greencore opened the 100,000-square-foot, Ready-to-Eat (RTE) Food Processing Facility in March of 2015.
